Stay vigilant! There are a whole load of unseen nasties that summer can throw at us. Take care when swimming with children, particularly in the sea. Beware of wasps and bees lurking in cans. Light barbecues well in advance and wait until the coals are glowing red and powdery before starting to cook. Never use the same tongs, utensils or plates for raw and cooked meat and ensure food is cooked all the way through to prevent food poisoning.
Stock up on hayfever remedies. If summer for you spells a season of sneezing, snivelling, itching and scratching, don’t forget to take your anti-histamines and other hayfever medication.
Shield your eyes. As well as being a summer fashion accessory, sun glasses play an important role in filtering light from your eyes, as well as shielding your eyes from the damaging UV rays. Look for a label that tells you how much radiation the glasses block. Wearing a hat helps block sunlight from above and helps prevent against heatstroke.
