Longer days, lighter evenings, the odd glimmer of sun – you’ve got to love the great British summer. But while we’re getting `excited about barbecues and beaches, we’re not the only ones celebrating the arrival of warmer temperatures. Bacteria breed more rapidly in warmer temperatures, and their winged, flying friends are back in business too, just waiting to spread nasty germs wherever they land. So while you’re rolling up your trousers and knotting your hanky, it’s a good idea to dig out the disinfectant as well…
There’s a party going on in our dishcloths… Bacteria grow best in warm, moist conditions with plenty of nutrients to feed off. On a summer’s day, our damp dishcloths provide the perfect place for bacteria to go forth and multiply over and over. After just one day’s use, the average cloth can contain a terrifying one billion bacteria – so make sure you change cloths regularly, always wash off food when you’ve wiped up and disinfect them every day. The same goes for tea towels and hand towels, so ensure you change and wash them regularly.
Bringing the outdoors in? Whether you’re sunbathing, barbecuing or pottering around in the garden, chances are you’ll be in and out of the house a fair few times this summer. Keep everything underfoot fresh and hygienic by regularly disinfecting floors and shoe racks.
