How does Zoflora kill the COVID-19 virus?

Zoflora has been keeping homes hygienically clean and beautifully fragrant for almost 100 years. It kills 99.9% of viruses and bacteria, whilst also eliminating odours and bringing long-lasting fragrance to the home for up to 24 hours. Now, there is yet another reason to love Zoflora, as it has been scientifically tested and proven to kill coronaviruses, including the COVID-19 virus, SARS-CoV-2.

How does Zoflora disinfect?

Prof. Steve Makin, Head of Research and Development at Zoflora, explains that Zoflora is a very effective disinfectant, as it contains active ingredients that even when diluted 1 in 40 with water as recommended, have an antibacterial and viricidal action that enables Zoflora to kill a wide range of harmful germs.

This means that Zoflora kills 99.9% of the many harmful viruses and bacteria that you would find around the home such, as Salmonella, E.coli and Rotavirus, as well as eliminating odours such as those from food and pets. You can learn more about the viruses and bacteria in our homes here.

What about coronaviruses?

Since the start of the pandemic, scientists at Zoflora have been working hard to test our formula to ensure that we can be confident it will kill the COVID-19 virus. Through stringent testing, we can confirm that Zoflora has efficacy (is effective) at eliminating enveloped viruses, including the current strain of coronavirus which causes the COVID-19 illness (SARS-CoV-2) in a 1 minute contact time.

Like many other disinfectant brands, we started by testing if Zoflora was effective against a surrogate virus and other strains of coronaviruses. Once we had proven the product to be 99.99% effective against these, we began testing Zoflora against the current COVID-19 virus strain, achieving a 99.9% deactivation or kill rate.

This allows us to be confident in our claim that Zoflora kills the COVID-19 virus, SARS CoV-2, when used correctly.

Coronavirus

How does it work?

Zoflora contains active ingredients that disrupt the lipid coats of certain viruses, preventing them from being able to spread.

This is tested by looking at the effect of Zoflora on the SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) strain of coronavirus, looking at how many viruses are in a test tube before and after adding diluted Zoflora. From this data, we can say that 99.99% of the coronavirus is inactivated or killed.

Using Zoflora effectively

In order to eliminate viruses and bacteria effectively with Zoflora, it is important to:

Dilute Zoflora Concentrated Multipurpose Disinfectant 1 in 40 with water

Remove heavy soiling or dirt from the surface prior to use to ensure that the disinfectant can work effectively

Allow a 5 minute contact time on surfaces (once you have sprayed or wiped Zoflora onto a surface, leave it for 5 minutes to dry)

Remember that once diluted, Zoflora retains its full germ-killing power for 2 weeks
